Seattle Thunderbirds prospect defenseman Kevin Korchinski captained Team Saskatchewan to a 4-2 victory over Team Manitoba in the 2019 WHL Cup Championship on Sunday, October 27.
A league high seven T-Birds Prospects were selected by their home province to play in the 2019 WHL Cup. The T-Birds and Kamloops Blazers each have seven prospects selected, which led the WHL.
Defenseman Cole Tanchuk was selected to play for Team Saskatchewan but due to injury was not able to compete at the tournament.
Forwards Jordan Gustafson and Connor Gourley played for Team Alberta. Gustafson was the captain of Team Alberta. Gourley had three goals and four assists in seven games at the tournament to tie with Conor Geekie of Team Manitoba for second in scoring.
Forward Nico Myatovic played for Team British Columbia. Defensemen Spencer Penner and Tyler Dodgson played for Team Manitoba.
The WHL Cup features the highest-rated players in the U-16 age group from the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. The tournament started October 23 at the Markin MacPhail Centre in Calgary.
