Delnov, Lockhart score in 6-2 loss to Edmonton

KENT, February 26, 2013 — The Edmonton Oil Kings defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 6-2 Tuesday night at ShoWare Center.

The T-Birds are in seventh place in the Western Conference Playoffs Standings with 50 points. They are one point ahead of the eighth place Everett Silvertips and six points ahead of the ninth place Prince George Cougars:.

They have three games in three nights starting on Thursday in Kelowna. The game against the Rockets is at 7:05pm. They then travel to Kennewick to take on the Tri-City Americans at 7:05pm. They return home to face the Americans at ShoWare Center on Saturday at 7:05pm.

Edmonton (44-15-2-3) went in front 1-0 at 6:56 of the first period on an unassisted goal from Dylan Wruck.

The Oil Kings outshot the T-Birds 8-5 in the first period.

T.J. Foster gave the Oil Kings a 2-0 lead with a power-play goal at 2:22 of the second period. Michael St. Croix and Henrik Samuelsson had the assists.

Edmonton extended the lead to 3-0 at 10:41 of the second when Cody Corbett scored. Stephane Legault and Mitch Moroz were credited with the assists.

Danny Mumaugh replaced Brandon Glover in Seattle’s net after the third Edmonton goal. Glover made 13 saves on 16 shots and his record dropped to 20-26-5-1.

Seattle (21-34-7-1) got on the board at 13:11 of the second on a power-play goal from Alexander Delnov. Luke Lockhart centered the puck from behind the Edmonton net to Delnov in the slot. Delnov rifled the puck past Edmonton goalie Laurent Brossoit for his 20thgoal of the season.

Edmonton outshot Seattle 10-5 of the second period and led 18-10 in total shots after two periods.

Henrik Samuelsson made it a 4-1 Edmonton lead at 6:35 of third when he scored a power-play goal. Wruck and Martin Gernat had the assists.

St. Croix scored on a breakaway at 8:42 of the third to get the Oil Kings fifth goal of the game. Gernat and Brossoit had the assists.

Lazar scored a power-play goal at 13:19 of the third to get the Oil Kings sixth goal. St. Croix and Samuelsson were credited with the assists.

The T-Birds got their second goal of the game on a nifty passing play from Roberts Lipsbergs, Delnov and Lockhart. Lipsbergs carried the puck up the ice into the Edmonton zone. After crossing the blue line he dropped the puck to Delnov. Delnov passed the puck to Lockhart skating down the slot. Lockhart received the puck skating backwards, pivoted forward and put around the outstretched left pad of Brossoit. Lockhart’s 19thgoal of the year came at 16:24 of the third.

Mumaugh stopped nine of 12 shots in 30 minutes of action.

Brossoit made 16 saves on 18 shots and his record is now 29-8-2-3.

The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.
