Brand New Season, Brand New Room

T-Birds unveil locker room changes for 2019-20 season

KENT, September 20, 2019 — The Seattle Thunderbirds start the 2019-20 regular season on Saturday against the Kamloops Blazers.

This past off-season we made several significant changes to the team locker room as part of our preparation for this season.

Each stall in the locker room has a plaque in the upper left corner with the name or names of a former T-Bird that graduated from the WHL or graduated to a professional team that used the stall.

On top of the locker room stalls there is a new lighting system. This system allows the lighting intensity in the locker room to be changed minimally or significantly to blue, green and white hues. The lighting system is also synchronized to the audio system in the locker room. This means any music played in the locker room after a T-Birds victory can include a light show that follows the beat of the song that is playing.

A mural has been created that encircles the player locker room stalls. The mural contains player photos that date back to the days of the Seattle Breakers and photos of significant events in the team’s history.

“I’m really happy with the way the room turned out,” said head coach Matt O’Dette. “Having the mural of T-Birds alumni around the stalls and plaques in the stalls identifying former T-Birds that used that stall, helps tell the history of our team to all current and future players. Knowing our history helps our players understand the legacy of the Thunderbirds and their responsibility to uphold that legacy”.

“The lighting system adds a cool, modern touch to the room,” continued O’Dette.

“Both our front office and hockey operations staffs had input in the design. Special thanks to Erin (Saunders) who did an excellent job with the alumni mural. And we really appreciate the support of Bil (La Forge) and our owners Dan and Lindsey (Leckelt) for making these upgrades possible. It was a team effort.”
