T-Birds Battle But Fall Just Short At Everett

Bateman, Gustafson score in 5-2 loss to Silvertips

EVERETT, April 28, 2021 β€” The Everett Silvertips defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 5-2 Wednesday night at Angel of the Winds Arena.

The T-Birds next two games will be broadcast on JOEtv Channel 22/Cable 110. They play the Spokane Chiefs on Saturday at 5:10pm. The T-Birds host the Portland Winterhawks on Sunday at 5:05pm.

Everett went in front 1-0 at 1:16 of the first period on a goal from Jacob Wright.

The T-Birds came right back and tied the game 1-1 32 seconds after Everett took the lead. Henrik Rybinski centered the puck from behind the goal line. Rybinski’s pass hit the right skate of Lucas Ciona in slot and went to Luke Bateman in the high slot. Bateman took a wrist shot with Ciona screening Everett goalie Dustin Wolf and hit the top right corner of the net for his first goal of the season.

The Silvertips took a 2-1 lead on an unassisted shorthanded goal by Cole Fonstad at 13:31 of the first.

Everett had a 3-1 lead after a goal by Ronan Seeley at 15:18 of the second period.

Jordan Gustafson cut the Everett lead to one at 5:28 of the third period with a power-play goal. Kevin Korchinski passed the puck from the left point to Gustafson in the right circle. Gustafson put a hard wrist shot on net with Gabe Ludwig screening Wolf. Gustafson’s shot beat Wolf over the left shoulder for his fifth goal of the season.

Seeley scored a second goal, at 14:49 of the third, to give the Silvertips a 4-2 lead.

Seattle pulled goalie Jackson Berry for an extra attacker with 2:49 left in the game. Everett shot the puck out of play in their zone and was called for delay of game giving the T-Birds a six-on-four power play. Seattle mounted pressure but Ty Gibson scored an empty-net goal with 17 seconds left.
