Team White Defeats Team Blue 5-4 In Blue White Game

KENT, August 27, 2017 — Team White scored two power-play goals late in the third period to defeat Team Blue 5-4 Sunday night at ShoWare Center in the annual Blue White game that ends Training Camp.

Blue forced a turnover in the right circle of the offensive zone and the puck came to Charles Obobaifo. Obobaifo skated into the slot and beat goalie Eric Ward through the legs for the first goal of the game at 17:51 of the first period.

Blue took a 2-0 lead at 19:09 of the of the first. Luke Ormsby skated own the right wing and passed the puck from the goal line to Dillon Hamaliuk at the bottom of the right circle. Hamaliuk beat Ward over the glove as the goalie slid left to right to try and make the save.

Elijah Brown scored 49 seconds into the second period to get White’s first goal and cute Blue’s lead to one goal.

White tied the game 2-2 at 2:42 of the third period on a goal from Nakodan Greyeyes. He scored from in close off a rebound.

Blue took the lead back at 12:32 of the third period on a goal from Cody Savey. Graeme Bryks got the puck off the right wall to Savey in the slot. Savey beat goalie Austin Cooley low on the stick side.

White tied the game 3-3 on a goal from Turner Ottenbreit. Brown skated down the left wing and dropped the puck for Ottenbreit trailing the play. Ottenbreit took a slap shot that beat goalie Ty Marcinkowski ove the glove.

White then scored two power-play goals with under two minutes to go to take a 5-3 lead. Blake Bargar banged in the rebound of a Aaron Hyman shot on a 5-on-3 power play to make it 4-3. Payton Mount scored from the left of the net at 19:02 to make it 5-3.

Austin Strand scored on a slap shot with 3.9 seconds left to get Blue’s fourth goal.

Rosters for Saturday Afternoon Main Camp Scrimmages    Games 7, 8 & 9

Scrimmage 21
Zack Andrusiak had a hat trick in the final scrimmage Saturday evening to lead Team Blue to a 5-2 win over Team Grey.

Brendon Jorssen scored 45 seconds into the scrimmage to put Blue in front 1-0.

Daniel Juca made it 2-0 Blue at 5:33 of the scrimmage.

Grey cut the lead to one when Nolan Volcan put back a rebound at 10:16.

Volcan made it a 2-2 tie at 14:15 of the scrimmage.

Andrusiak then scored three goals in the last 12 minutes to make the final score 5-2.

Scrimmage 20
Team Blue beat Team White 3-2 in the middle scrimmage Saturday afternoon.

Blue took a 1-0 lead four minutes into the scrimmage on a goal by Deepkaran Hans.

Zack Andrusiak scored two goals in two minutes, at 10:04 and 12:02, to give Blue a 3-1 lead.

Austin Strand scored a power-play goal on a slap shot with 5:44 to go in the scrimmage to get White on the board.

Logan Valkama tipped a Strand slap shot past the Blue goalie to cut the lead to one goal with less than a minute left.

Team White beat Team Grey 3-0 in the first scrimmage Saturday afternoon.

The line of Eric Fawkes, Donovan Neuls and Payton Mount combined on a nice goal at 5:27 to open the scrimmage. Fawkes got the puck to Neuls to the left of the goal. Neuls took a shot that hit the goalie’s stick and deflected into the air. Mount knocked the puck out of the air and into the net.

Blake Bargar got White in front 2-0 at 7:31 of the scrimmage.

Elijah Brown made a good move at the blue line around a defender to set up a two-on-one with Tyler Carpendale. Brown passed the puck through the top of the crease to Carpendale who slammed the puck into the net for the final White goal.

Team Blue beat Team Grey 2-1 in the third scrimmage Saturday morning.

Graeme Bryks scored 5:28 into the scrimmage to give Grey a 1-0 lead.

Blue answered right back with a goal from Connor Pyne.

Zack Andrusiak won the game when he scored with under two minutes left.

Team Grey beat Team White 3-2 in the middle scrimmage Saturday morning.

Eric Fawkes scored at 4:21 and Blake Bargar at 7:47 of the scrimmage to give Team Grey a 2-0 lead.

White tied the game 2-2 with consecutive goals from Jarret Tyszka and Dillon Hamaliuk.

Grey got the winning goal from Jake Lee scored with 5:16 left on the clock from in close.

Noah Braz scored with 23 seconds left in the first scrimmage Saturday morning to give Team White a 1-0 win over Team Blue.

Charles Obobaifo passed the puck to Braz in the left circle. Braz’s shot deflected off a defenseman and past goalie Matt Berlin.

Team Blue beat Team Grey 3-0 in the final scrimmage at Main Camp Friday afternoon making it the third straight shutout of the day.

Team Blue was first on the board on a slap shot by Tyrel Bauer at 17:25 of the scrimmage.

Cole Dubicki was the second to score for Team Blue making it 2-0 with 6:40 left.

Nakodan Greyeyes sealed the win for Team Blue on an assist from Zack Andrusiak making it 3-0.

Scrimmage 14

Team Grey beat Team Blue 1-0 in the second game of main camp Friday afternoon.

Aaron Hyman for Team Grey scored the only goal of the game with 9.9 seconds on the clock. Hyman took a slap shot from the left point off a nice feed from Holden Katzalay.

Scrimmage 13

Team White beat Team Grey 1-0 in the first game of main camp Friday afternoon.

Jake Lee scored only goal of the scrimmage at 4:21 on wrist shot to give Team White the 1-0 lead.

Team Grey beat Team Blue 2-1 in the final scrimmage Thursday evening.

Dawson Penner scored at 11:10 to give Blue a 1-0 lead.

Grey scored two quick goals, by Charles Obobaifo and Cody Savey to take a 2-1 lead, midway through the scrimmage.

Team Blue beat Team White 6-3 in the middle scrimmage Thursday evening.

Samuel Huo opened the scoring for White early in the scrimmage. Brock Nelson answered back for Blue to tie the game 1-1.

Eric Fawkes scored on a slapshot from the slot midway through the scrimmage to get Blue in front 2-1. Nakodan Greyeyes quickly tied the game 2-2 for White.

Blue scored four quick goals with under seven minutes left to take a 5-2 lead. Callum MacDonald scored twice and Graeme Bryks and Deepkaran Hans each added a goal.

Huo added a second goal late in scrimmage off an assist from Mount for White’s third goal.

Payton Mount had two goals and an assist to lead Team White to a 4-2 win over Team Grey.

Charles Obobaifo scored halfway through the scrimmage to tie the game 1-1.

Keiton Klein gave White a 2-1 lead with 9:06 left in the scrimmage.

Mount scored his second of the scrimmage with 6:17 left to make it a 3-1 White lead.

Grey cut the lead to one goal when Matthew Buston scored a shorthanded goal late in the scrimmage.

Mount set up Luke Benoit with under a minute left in the scrimmage to get White’s fourth goal.

Team Blue beat Team Grey 2-1 in a six-round shootout to finish up the morning scrimmages.

Team Blue took an early 1-0 lead on a scramble goal.

Team Grey tied it up 1-1 on a goal by Carson Preston with two minutes left.

Team Blue and Team Grey headed to a shootout, the second shootout for Team Grey today. In the first round Carson Preston of Team Grey scored on a wrist shot. White tied the shootout in the second round with a goal by by Dustin Laurenceson.

In the fourth round Matthew Rempe scored for Grey but was quickly matched by Daniel Juca on Blue.

Graeme Bryks scored on a wrist shot in the sixth round of the shootout to give Team Blue a 2-1 win over Team Grey.

Scrimmage 8
Team Grey beat Team White 3-2 in a six-round shootout in the middle scrimmage Thursday morning.

Carson Preston scored 3:50 in to the scrimmage and Team Grey took a 1-0 lead.

Samuel Huo netted a goal 16 minutes in for Team White for a 1-1 tie.

Keiton Klein scored for Team White from the crease as pushed a loose puck in for a 2-1 lead for White.

Matthew Butson tied it 2-2 for Greyt with three minutes left.

Nakodan Greyeyes scored for White in the fourth round of the shootout and Matthew Rempe answered right back for Grey to keep the shootout going.

Josh Paulhus scored the game winner in the sixth round when he went post and in with a wrist shot.

Team White beat Team Blue 3-0 in the first scrimmage Thursday morning.

Nakodan Greyeyes scored 2:30 in to the scrimmage for a 1-0 White lead.

Payton Mount found the back of the net off an assist from Samuel Huo at 16:27.

Owen Dean added an empty-net goal with under a minute to play to seal the win for White.

Team Grey shutout Team Blue 3-0 in the last scrimmage on Wednesday.

Grey took a 1-0 lead 30 seconds into the scrimmage on a goal from Charles Obobaifo.

Jake Lee scored for Grey at 4:49 to give his side a 2-0 lead.

Grey went in front 3-0 on a goal from Matthew Rempe at 6:30.

Team White beat Team Blue 2-1. White went in front 2-0 on goals from Aaron Lorenz at 12:20 and Samuel Huo at 23:53.

Tyrel Bauer cut the lead to one with 1:25 left when a slap shot from the right point with traffic found the back of the net.

Scrimmage 4
Team White beat Team Grey 3-2 in the first evening scrimmage on Wednesday. Boston Bayly opened the scoring 1:30 into the game for White with a shot from the point that got through and found the back of the net.

Grey’s Charles Obobaifo tied the game 1-1 7:10 into the scrimmage. He beat the White goalie from the bottom of the left circle with a sharp angle shot.

Payton Mount put White back in front 2-1 at the 15-minute mark. Mount skate down the left wing, cut into the slot and slid the puck under the Grey goalie.

Cody Savey tied the game 2-2 with 4:24 left on a wrist shot from the slot.

White took a 3-2 lead on a goal from Owen Dean with 3:05 left in the scrimmage.

Scrimmage 3
Team Blue beat Team Grey 2-1 in the third scrimmage of the morning when Dawson Penner scored on a backhand shot from the left of the net with nine seconds left.

Eric Fawkes set up Brock Nelson for Blue’s first goal of the scrimmage at 9:45.

Grey tied it 1-1 with under five minutes to go when a Sam Schoenfeld point shot was deflected past the Blue goalie.

Scrimmage 2
Team White beat Team Grey 2-1 in the second scrimmage Wednesday morning.

Cade McNelly scored 4:30 into the scrimmage when his centering pass from the low right circle deflected off a Grey defenseman and past the goalie.

Grey tied the game 1-1 at 10:08 of the scrimmage. Noah Braz rushed the puck into the zone on the right wing and made a nice centering pass to Josh Paulhus in the slot. Paulhus beat the goalie high for the tying goal.

Mount put White in front 2-1 with 4:50 left in the scrimmage. He came out of the left corner and skated into the slot and beat the goalie with a wrist shot.

Scrimmage 1
Team Blue defeated Team White 2-1 in a shootout in the first scrimmage of Training Camp Wednesday morning.

Deepkaran Hans got Team Blue on the board with 9:08 left on clock in the 30-minute scrimmage. Hans came down right wing and beat goalie with a move to his backhand.

White tied the game 1-1 with 1:42 left in the scrimmage on a goal by Payton Mount. Mount crossed the blue line on the right wing, made a move the slot and beat the goalie with a wrist shot on the blocker side.

Tyler Price scored in the shootout for Blue and Nakodan Greyeyes scored for White. Callum McDonald scored the shootout winner in the seventh round.

Sunday, August 27, is the last day of Training Camp and will feature a full 60-minute three period game. The teams will be wearing T-Birds white and blue game jerseys, unlike previous scrimmages which will feature team branded practice jerseys. The game starts at 5:30pm at ShoWare Center.

All Training Camp scrimmages and the Blue White game are open to the public free of charge. Fans attending any of the scrimmages or Blue White game should enter ShoWare Center from the east side of the building.

The Thunderbirds will play seven exhibition games prior to the start of the 2017-2018 regular season.

The T-Birds start the preseason at the Delta Hotels Preseason Classic at Xfinity Arena. They will play their first game at the Classic against the Vancouver Giants on Friday, September 1, at 11:30am. Classic play will continue the following day as the T-Birds face the Everett Silvertips Saturday, September 2 at 7pm. The Classic comes to a close for the T-Birds on Sunday, September 3, as they play the Spokane Chiefs at 3pm.

Preseason play continues for the T-Birds at the Red Lion Hotels’ Preseason Tournament at the Toyota Center in Kennewick. The T-Birds will begin the tournament on Friday, September 8, against the Spokane Chiefs at 3pm. Tournament play will conclude Saturday, September 9 with a matchup against the Kootenay Ice at 11am.

The T-Birds wrap up preseason play with back-to-back games against the Everett Silvertips. They will play on Friday, September 15, at 7:30pm at Xfinity Arena in Everett. The T-Birds will return home to the ShoWare Center on Saturday, September 16, at 7pm for their final preseason game.

The WHL Champion T-Birds start the 2017-18 Western Hockey League regular season against the Tri-City Americans on Saturday, September 23 at 7:05pm at the ShoWare Center.

T-Birds single game tickets for the 2017-18 regular season are currently on sale online on the T-Birds website and at the ShoWare Center box office.
