Team White Defeats Team Blue 3-2 To End 2018 Seattle Thunderbirds Training Camp

Kent, August 26, 2018 –Team White defeated Team Blue 3-2 Sunday night in the annual Blue White Game to end Seattle Thunderbirds Training Camp.

White took a 1-0 lead five minutes into the first period on a goal from Lucas Ciona. Graeme Bryks got the puck to Ciona in right circle and snapped it over the blocker of goalie Liam Hughes.

Jaxan Kaluski put White in front 2-0 at 7:32 of the first. Samuel Huo had the only assist on the goal.

Team White outshot Team Blue 18-4 in the first period. Liam Hughes had 16 saves on 18 shots for Blue and Cole Schwebius had four saves on four shots.

Team White outshot Team Blue 9-5 in the second period. Thomas Milic had nine saves for Blue and Ty Marcinkowski had five saves for White.

Sam Huo scored with under three minutes left in the game to give White a 3-0 lead.

Blue answered back though when Mekai Sanders scored with two minutes left to make it a 3-1 game.

Team Blue got a power play with two minutes left and pulled goalie Nick Rimmer for an extra attacker. Conner Roulette scored from the left of the net with 19 seconds left to cut the deficit to one goal.

White held on for the win as Blue pulled Rimmer a second time.

Blue White Game Rosters

The Thunderbirds will play seven exhibition games prior to the start of the 2018-2019 regular season.

The T-Birds start the preseason at the Delta Hotels’ Preseason Classic in Everett. They will play their first game at the Classic against the Vancouver Giants on Friday, August 31, at 11:30am. Classic play will continue the following day as the T-Birds face the Everett Silvertips Saturday, September 1 at 7pm. The Classic ends for the T-Birds on Sunday, September 2, as they play the Spokane Chiefs at 3pm.

Preseason play continues for the T-Birds at the Red Lion Hotels’ Preseason Tournament at the Toyota Center in Kennewick. The T-Birds will begin the tournament on Thursday, September 6, against the Spokane Chiefs at 3pm. Tournament play will conclude on Friday, September 7 with a matchup against the Kootenay Ice at 3pm.

The T-Birds wrap up preseason play with back-to-back games against the Everett Silvertips. They will play on Tuesday, September 11, at 7:05pm at accesso ShoWare Center. The T-Birds will travel to Angel of the Winds Arena on Saturday, September 15, to play the Silvertips at 7:05pm in their final preseason game. Tickets for the home preseason game are now on sale.

The T-Birds start the 2018-19 Western Hockey League regular season against the Portland Winterhawks on Saturday, September 22 at 6:05pm at the ShoWare Center.

Scrimmage 17
Team Blue won the last scrimmage of Training Camp 3-0 over Team Green.

Nolan Flint scored nine minutes into the scrimmage for a 1-0 Blue lead.

Austin Mayert scored on a penalty shot and Nolan Volcan added an empty-net goal.

Cole Schwebius had 18 saves for the Blue shutout.

Scrimmage 16
Team Blue beat Team White 3-2 in a shootout in the second scrimmage Saturday evening at accesso ShoWare Center.

Matthew Wedman opened the scoring for White and Samuel Huo answered for Blue.

Tyler Carpendale scored late for White but Noah Braz tied the game 2-2 for Blue with two minutes left.

Payton Mount and Nolan Volcan scored in the shootout for Blue to get the win. Thomas Milic stopped two White shooters in the shootout.

Scrimmage 15
Team Green continued its good run Saturday at accesso ShoWare Center with a 3-2 win over Team White in the first scrimmage of the evening.

Mike MacLean scored from the slot early in the scrimmage off a pass from Zack Andrusiak.

Green took a 2-0 lead on a goal from Andrusiak.

Matthew Wedman centered the puck while falling down and Johnny Carmichael found the back of the net. Charles Obobaifo scored on a breakaway off a White turnover to put Green back in front by two goals.

Wedman scored with under two minutes left to cut the lead to one goal. White pulled goalie Ty Marcinkowski for the extra attacker but were not able to tie the game.

Main Camp Rosters – Day 2

Scrimmage 14
Zack Andrusiak had two goals and an assist to lead Team Green to a 4-1 win over Team Blue in the last scrimmage on Saturday morning.

Greg Nelson had a goal and Green added an empty-net goal at the end to seal the win.

Reid Schaefer had the lone Blue goal.

Scrimmage 13
Kai Uchacz scored the first and last goals for Team Green in a 4-1 win over Team White in the second scrimmage Saturday morning. Greg Nelson and Nico Marini scored for Green in between Uchacz’s goals.

Johnny Carmichael scored for Team White.

Scrimmage 12
Team Blue won the first scrimmage Saturday morning 3-2 in a shootout over Team White. Payton Mount scored for Blue and Jared Davidson scored for White in the 30 minute scrimmage.

Owen Williams was the fifth White shooter and he scored in the shootout to give White the lead. Nolan Flint came off the bench for Blue and scored after Williams to tie the shootout. Deepkaran Hans scored on his attempt to win it for Blue.

Main Camp Rosters – Day 1

Scrimmage 11
Team White shuts out Team Blue 3-0 in the last scrimmage Friday evening at Training Camp.

Taige Harding scored with six minutes left to put White up 1-0. Conner Roulette added a goal on the next shift and Graeme Bryks finished the scoring with two minutes to go.

Cody Creasy had 16 saves for the shutout.

Scrimmage 10
Team Blue doubled up Team Green 6-3 in the second scrimmage of main camp.

Nolan Volcan had two goals and Payton Mount had a goal and an assist for Blue. Matthew Rempe, Deepkaran Hans and Reid Schaefer also scored for Blue.

Sam Popowich, Kai Uchacz and Aidan Beck scored for Green.

Scrimmage 9
Team Green defeated Team White 2-0 behind goals from Zack Andrusiak and Garrett Ellis in the first scrimmage of Main Camp.

Nick Rimmer had 11 saves for Team White.

Scrimmage 8
Team Grey won the first place game of Rookie Camp at the T-Birds 2018 Training Camp 3-1 over Team Blue.

Ryley Pouliot opened the scoring for Grey 2:45 into the first period.

Lucas Ciona tied the game 1-1 for Blue when he tipped a point shot past the Grey goalie.

Sam Popowich put Grey in front with 12 minutes left in the third period. Tyler Tarkowski iced the game with an empty goal with five second left in the game.

Scrimmage 7
Team Green won a hard fought third place game 3-2 over Team Grey. Blake Rasmuson and Garrett Ellis put Green ahead 2-0.

Grey came back with goals by Cole Comerford and Kyle Uganecz.

Johnny Carmichael scored with 2:30 left in the game to get Green’s third goal.

White pulled their goalie and Green had to hold off a furious White rally to win the game.


Scrimmage 6
Team Grey defeated Team White 3-0 in the last morning scrimmage Thursday.

Greg Nelson opened the scoring with 3:45 left in the second period. Josh Paulhus scored early in the third period to give Grey a 2-0 lead.

Sam Popowich scored with six minutes left in the third period for Graey’s third goal.

Scrimmage 5
Team Green defeated Team Blue 2-0 in the first scrimmage Thursday morning. Riley Skarbon scored with 20 seconds left in the second period and Deepkaran Hans added an empty-net goal.

Carson Mausch and Vince Pinsonneault combined for the shutout for Team Green.

Scrimmage 4
Team Grey defeated Team Green 5-3 in the last scrimmage of Wednesday. Greg Nelson, Matteo Pivetta, Andrew Alonzo, Tristan Baumung and Josh Paulhus had goals for Grey. The goal by Paulhus was a empt-net goal as Grey pulled their goalie for an extra attacker late in the third period to try and tie the game.

Johnny Carmichael, Blake Rasmuson and Riley Skarbon had goals for Grey.

Scrimmage 3
Payton Mount and Owen Elson each had two goals to lead Team Blue to a 5-3 win over Team White in the first scrimmage of Wednesday evening.

Blake Irwin also scored for Blue.

Nolan Flint, Jared Davidson and Reid Schaefer scored for Team White.

Scrimmage 2
In the second scrimmage Wednesday morning Team White shutout Team Green 3-0. Austyn Hansen, Braeden Blace and Matthew Rempe had the goals for White.

Ty Marcinkowski and Owen Albers combined for the shutout for White.

Scrimmage 1
Team Blue defeated Team Grey 4-1 in the first scrimmage of Training Camp. Lucas Ciona, Payton Mount, Levi Carter and William Dudley scored for Team Blue.

Owen Dean had the lone goal for Team Grey.
