Kent, February 8, 2019 – Q It Up Sports on KCPQ 13 will have a special Hockey Challenge 2019 segment on the Sunday, February 10 broadcast.
John Barr, the curator and chief instigator of NHL to Seattle, and Sara Manning Dawson, a player on the Manny’s Mayhem and Microsoft Azure teams at this year’s Challenge, will join host Michelle Ludtka on Q It Up Sports on JOEtv at 9:30pm and Q13 at 10:30pm.
John and Sara will be talking with Michelle about why they have been involved in the Challenge for many years, how much fun the event is, and they will be debuting the jerseys that the local celebrities and T-Birds alumni will be wearing in the All-Star Game that follows the T-Birds vs. Portland Winterhawks game.
The 21st annual Hockey Challenge is Saturday, February 23, at accesso ShoWare Center.
The All-Star game will feature Team Konowalchuk vs. Team Goodall. Team Konowalchuk will be captained by former T-Birds head coach Steve Konowalchuk, who is currently an Amateur Scout with the New York Rangers. Konowalchuk will skate and play in the All-Star Game. Team Goodall will be captained by T-Birds legend Glen Goodall who will be skating in his first Hockey Challenge Celebrity and T-Birds Alumni All-Star Game. Goodall is the WHL career leader in games played with 399 and goals scored with 262. Goodall is second in career points in the WHL with 573. His number 10 jersey is the only number retired by the team.
Bill Wixey, morning news anchor on KCPQ 13 TV, returns this year to lend his support to RMHC and to play for one of the Celebrity All-Star teams.
Steve Migs from the “BJ and Migs Show” mornings on 99.9 KISW, a longtime supporter of the Challenge and RMHC, will play goalie for either Team Konowalchuk or Team Goodall.
Barr, in his 15th year supporting RMHC, is organizing the Challenge game between NHLtoSeattle Black vs. NHLtoSeattle White.
Ian Furness from 950 KJR Sportsradio will be lending his support by hosting and emceeing the All-Star Game. Furness will be calling the T-Birds vs. Winterhawks game on JOEtv this night and will head to ice level after the broadcast ends.
Former T-Birds, including Jamie Huscroft, Danny Lorenz, Tyler Alos, Jim McTaggart, and Regan Mueller will be divided up among Team Konowalchuk and Team Goodall. Former Tacoma Rocket Jamie Butt and former professional hockey player will also play in the All-Star game.
The T-Birds and the RMHC is working on adding more former T-Birds and local celebrities to the roster and hope to have more player announcements in the coming weeks.
The Top Donors from the Hockey Challenge teams will be divided up evenly among Team Konowalchuk and Team Goodall.
There will be five Challenge games before the T-Birds vs. Winterhawks game. This year the Challenge will again feature a team from LinkedIn. The LinkedIn team will play two games against teams made up of players from different divisions at Microsoft.
This is the 21th anniversary of the Hockey Challenge which began in 1998, when hockey-playing Microsoft employees, with the help of the Thunderbirds, took an in-house rivalry public and decided to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Western Washington & Alaska (RMHC). Since inception, the Challenge has raised more than $6.2 million for RMHC, which provides a “home-away-from-home” for children and their families during medical treatment, making each day a little easier.
A ticket to Hockey Challenge 2019 gives fans access to all Challenge events on Saturday, February 23, including the local Celebrity and T-Birds Alumni Celebrity Game, all other Challenge games and the T-Birds game that night against the Winterhawks. The Celebrity and T-Birds Alumni Game is scheduled to start as quickly as possible after the T-Birds game ends.

The T-Birds are now taking orders for Flex-24 Ticket packages. Fans that purchase the 24-Flex Ticket Package will be able to select any available premium seat for any game, in any ticket combination, during the 2018-19 season.
