Gustafson and Korchinski Invited To Canada’s Under-18 Summer Development Camp

Both players selected by T-Birds in the 2019 Prospects Draft
KENT, July 8, 2021 — Seattle Thunderbirds general manager Bil La Forge today announced center Jordan Gustafson and defenseman Kevin Korchinski have been invited to Canada’s National Men’s Under-18 Team summer development camp.
The summer development camp is from July 25 to August 4 at the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex on the Tsuut’ina Nation near Calgary, Alberta.
“This is a great opportunity for Jordan and Kevin to play against the top talent in Canada in their age group,” said La Forge. “We know they will do well and the experience will help them grow as players. This is also a testament to the strength of our coaching, scouting, and development staffs for the hard work they have put in to help both get this invitation.”
Gustafson was sixth on the team in scoring in his rookie season last year with four goals and seven assists for 11 points. He registered his first point, an assist, in the T-Birds first game on March 19. Gustafson scored his first goal on March 27 against Portland in a 3-2 win.
Gustafson was drafted by the Seattle Thunderbirds in the first round with the 8th overall pick in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft and signed a WHL Standard Player Agreement with the team on May 22, 2019.
Korchinski had 10 assists in 23 games for the T-Birds last season. He registered his first point with an assist on March 20 against Portland. Four times this season he had assists in back-to-back games.
Korchinski was selected in the first round with the 10th overall pick in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft by the Seattle Thunderbirds and he signed a WHL Standard Player Agreement with the team May 24, 2019.
The summer development camp includes four goaltenders, 15 defensemen, and 26 forwards. Over the 11-day camp, the players will be split into two teams, Red and White, and participate in practices and intrasquad games. The camp will also feature combined practices and intrasquad games with Canada’s National Junior Team on August 2-3. The summer camp is typically used to evaluate and select Canada’s roster for the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, but Canada will not participate in this year’s event due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
