T-Birds Toppled By Oil Kings

T-BIRDS TOPPLED BY OIL KINGS
T-Birds road trip through Central Division continues on Friday against Lethbridge
EDMONTON The Edmonton Oil Kings defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 7-1 Wednesday night at Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta.

This was the T-Birds third game in a six-game road trip through the Central Division. They will play the last three games on the road trip over the weekend. The T-Birds will face the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday at 6 p.m., the Medicine Hat Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday and the Kootenay Ice on Sunday at 6 p.m.

Seattle (3-10-0-2) took a 1-0 lead at 8:20 of the first period on Brendan Rouse’s first goal as a T-Bird. Sena Acolatse stole the puck in the neutral zone and sped down the right wing. Acolatse cut towards the net at the bottom of the right circle and dragged the puck towards the goal with Rouse coming down the slot. Edmonton goalie Torrie Jung, following Acolatse across the crease, stuck out his left leg to stop the puck. Jung got a piece of the puck, but he sent it right to Rouse to the right of the goal, and with the goalie’s momentum carrying him across the crease, he gave Rouse an empty net to shoot at. Rouse slammed the puck into the net for a 1-0 T-Birds lead.

The Oil Kings tied the game 1-1 with a power-play goal by Brett Breitkruez at 18:30 of the first period. Mark Pysyk and Henrik Tervonen had the assists.

Logan Proulx gave the Oil Kings a 2-1 lead at 19:18 of the first. Brent Raedeke and Josh Koper had the assists on the goal.

Edmonton (7-8-0-2) outshot Seattle 14-10 in first period.

Edmonton took a 3-1 lead at 6:55 of the second period on a goal by Clayton Cumiskey. Raedeke and Pysyk had the assists.

The Oil Kings extended the lead to 4-1 at 17:43 of the second on a goal by Cameron Maclise. Raedeke and Cumiskey assisted on the goal.

Thomas Vincour gave the Oil Kings a 5-1 lead at 19:37 of the third. T.J. Foster and Adrian Van de Mosselaer assisted on the goal.

Edmonton outshot Seattle 12-8 in the second period and led 26-18 in total shots after 40 minutes.

Pysyk scored at 1:44 of the third period to put the Oil Kings in front 6-1. Vincour and Cumiskey assisted on the goal.

Breitkruez scored the Oil Kings seventh goal at 9:35 of the third. His second goal of the game was unassisted.
