Hockey Challenge 2011 is scheduled for Saturday, February 26, at ShoWare Center in Kent. The Challege will feature six games all day with the T-Birds vs. Portland Winterhawks game at 6:05 p.m. followed by the Celebrity All-Star game. “The House is thrilled with the success of the event. It’s been a great 12-year partnership and we couldn’t ask for better partners than the T-Birds,” said Dianna Finnerty, Executive Director of RMHC. “We are thankful for the participation of all the teams and their fundraising efforts.
“The Challenge is such an important event for us,” said Colin Campbell, T-Birds Vice-President. “We look forward to the Challenge every year and know that our partnership with RMHC is providing assistance to numerous families staying at the Seattle Ronald McDonald House.”
Hockey teams are formed by sponsors that raise money to play in the Challenge. All proceeds from the Challenge directly support operations of the Seattle Ronald McDonald House, which provides a “home-away-from-home” for children and their families during medical treatment, making each day a little easier. In fact, last year the Seattle Ronald McDonald House provided accommodations for 800 families.
Over the past 12 years the Hockey Challenge has raised over $3.5 million for the Seattle Ronald McDonald House.A ticket to the Hockey Challenge gives fans access to all Challenge events on the day of the Challenge. Events include the Celebrity Game and Celebrity autograph session, all other Challenge games and the T-Birds game that night against. Celebrities that have appeared at previous Hockey Challenge Celebrity include: Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville), Jason Thompson (General Hospital), Brian Basset (cartoonist of “Adam @ Home” and “Red and Rover”), Kelly Tysland (formerly Kelly Stephens 2006 U.S. Women’s Olympic hockey bronze medalist), Dan Wilson (former Seattle Mariner) Bill Wixey (KCPQ news anchor), Ian Furness (KJR 950 AM Host) and Paul Silvi (KING sports anchor). Paul Guilfoyle (CSI) and Cameron Bancroft (24: Day 4, Hockeyville on CBC).
T-Birds alumni that have appeared include Jamie Huscroft, Al Kinisky, Pat Smith, Regan Mueller, Blake Knox, Brett Duncan, Ryan Gibbons, and Lloyd Shaw.
